Insulation Union Local 32
The International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers have been supplying the Mechanical Insulation workforce with a proficient and professionally trained workforce for over one hundred years. The Insulation Union Local 32 covers 12 of the 21 counties in the State of New Jersey including all of Northern New Jersey and half of Central New Jersey.
The mechanical insulation industry has a long track record of providing large scale and long-term energy efficiency, emissions reductions, cost savings and safety benefits at manufacturing facilities, power plants, refineries, hospitals, schools, universities, government buildings, multiple dwellings and even residences. Industrial, commercial and residential, with the proper insulation application, the savings are quickly realized and last for many years, even though the return on investment from mechanical Insulation is typically less than two years and sometimes as little as six months. Mechanical insulation also improves infrastructure in the public, educational and health care sectors, among others.
All of our Insulators are trained through a rigid 4 years Federally approved Apprentice Training Program jointly overseen by Labor and Management. Our program meets all criteria of the United States Department of Labor. The training incorporates the process of the installation of valued engineered energy efficient insulations systems. Everything, in the Insulation trade has always focused on energy efficiency for well over a century, long before its current popularity. All indications and trends offer substantial data that the need for more energy efficient mechanical systems will require more highly skilled mechanical insulation craft workers.
Insulators Local 32 are also involved in related fields other than applying Mechanical Insulation. For over seventy years, Asbestos was installed as insulation, a very good insulation as well. Local 32 continues to properly and safely remove the dangers of the cancer causing material and replaces it with state of the art environmentally friendly new insulation materials.
Firestopping and Smoke seal is another aspect of what Local 32 offers in its workforce. Firestopping is the science and application of ensuring the containable systems in a building fire. Buildings are designed to have fire rated walls to limit the spread of a fire. While the fire rated walls work as they are engineered to, the walls get compromised when necessary utilities penetrate the walls leaving a breech in the fire/smoke containment. Special and highly technical systems are installed to maintain the integrity of the fire rated walls. Local 32 offers highly trained workers to install such systems correctly that will ensure the safety of people who live or work in these buildings
